drawings of T0R0NT0, some

OLD FACES series, and
at long last, the twelve
political cartoons I drew
last year that no one had
the courage to display
anywhere.
... and maybe some of the things happening with my newest efforts,
called "$TRIP~MINING 0UR SKIES" - - - yeh - - - and then . . .
well, and then something else, something new for me.

It was 2023 when I typed all of this into my old webpage.
We have all gone through the 'covid'-plague and, in fact, many of us are still going through aspects of it. The combination of this new situation and the political/economic conditions that have arisen due to it - and the rapidly changing state of our newest technology - have caused me to stop painting my 2d/3d 'paintings' for a year. Instead of making what I was making, and also to stop participating in all of the new debates over the usage of artificial intelligence in the creation of 'artwork', I will use this year of 2023 to create CART00NS.
These political/economic/societal CART00NS are meant to convey my observations of local conditions here in T0R0NT0, 0NTARI0, CANADA . . . but I am sure that some of it will relate to where you live too.
WAIT - WAIT A MINUTE - looks like my series of CART00NS will have a much more
complex story now [ mebbe more like a Russian Novel Written By Shakespeare ? ]

The Following Are From The ''0LDfaces'' Series Created From Inspirations That Were Found In The Old EASTERN SIDE of TORONTO, Ontario, Canada.
The First One is a 30"x 30" Ink Drawing On White Surface. The Rest Are Approximately 9"x 11" x 1"+ ... And They Are A Bit 3 Dimensional In That Their Layers Rise Up Off Their Composite Background Bases. Those Started As Distorted Montages And Progressed Through To Ink Drawings Then Textured 2d/3d Paintings.
Some Of These Are Already Spoken For ~ Or Are Already In Collections In Canada.
THE TORONTO STOCK EXCHANGE 12" x 18" THE FLATIRON BUILDING 12" x 18"
THE GOODERHAM & WORTS DISTILLERY 12" x 18" THE OLD AND NEW TORONTO FERRY TERMINALS 12" x 18"
This Next One Is "THE LAST HUMAN RACE" And It Is Approximately 5' Wide x 4' High x 1' Thick.
It Is A Mixed Media Piece Of Multi-Layered Composite Materials With Elements Of Distorted Montage, Drawing, Painting, and Texturing.
It Is Intended To Make Clear That We Are In A Tight Race Between Our Own Destruction Of Our Home Planet And The Rapidly Proliferating
New Technologies That We Hope Will Help Us To Minimize The Damage We Are Doing To Ourselves In This Century.
These Next Two Are From A Series About CANADIAN CITIES.
They Are Each Approximately 30" Wide x 30" Tall x 8" Thick.
The One On The Left Is QUÉBEC CITY. The One On The Right Is OTTAWA.
Both Are 2d/3d In Their Construction And Finish. As With Many Of My Pieces These Two Began As Distorted Photo Montages That Get Redrawn & Reconstructed in 2d/3d Then Completed With Acrylic Paint And More Ink Drawing. They Both Protrude Away From The Walls They Hang On To Come Forward And Enter Into Our 3d Physical Spaces.
From Time To Time I wander Back Into The Lands Of Abstraction - This Small Piece
[ "The Purple People Eater" ] Was A Diversion Into The More Organically Abstract.
The Larger Piece On The Left Below, Called "MORE", Is about 3' Wide and 5' Tall and 5" Thick.
It's All About Our Constant Need For More, No Matter How Much We Manage To Obtain - By Hook Or By Crook.
Stacks Of Coin And Gold That May Hurt Us Much More Than Help Us.
The Smaller Piece On The Right Is Of A Beggar Woman I Saw On The CHAMPS-ELYSÉES, The Richest Street In Paris.
Another Smattering Of Older Works - "TYRANTS & SLAVES" - About 24" Wide x 36" Tall - and "SINCERO", a small Canadian Flag - And "BLACK DOG AND CAT" About 10" x 14" - And "RED RIGHT HAND" About 8" x 10", all Acrylic Paintings - some with 2d/3d elements.
And, Way Back In 2015 I Decided I Would Put Together Very Many Of The Things That Were Really Getting To Me. I Felt, At That Time, That If I Could Put Everything I Did Not Like Into One Piece, I Would Feel Better By Getting It All Out Of My System And Into A Painting. This One Was About 5' x 5'.
[ It Did Help For A While. It Hung In A Local Café For A Long Time Until One Day A Young Boy And His Mother Came In. The Boy Decided He Wanted To Buy It. So I Sold It To Him. ] The Piece Is Called "DISlikeITis".
Then There Was The Time I Wanted To Paint Some Of THE LADIES Of JAZZ In Toronto. I Proceeded To Paint
MOLLY And JACKIE And KELLYLEE With Acrylics On Identically Sized Panels At About 16" x 24".
There Were Many More, But All Of Those Are Long Gone Now . . .
